The study tries to map zakat and poverty in three provinces located on the island of Java, namely DKI Jakarta, Banten and D.I Yogyakarta. To poverty, the data used are data from two approaches in measuring poverty, namely the monetary approach derived from BPS and the non-monetary originating from the BDT.
On the other hand, zakat data is collected from data collected on the National Zakat Index. The two main data are then processed and analyzed in this study. Among the three provinces studied, Banten is the province with the largest population. The highest was 13,000,939 people, followed by DKI Jakarta (10,664,260 people) and D.I Yogyakarta (3,802,872 people). Banten is also a province with a population. The highest poor with 591,352 people, followed by DI Yogyakarta (460,160 people) and DKI Jakarta (378,760 inhabitants).
However, when analyzed from the total population of each province, DI Yogyakarta recorded a higher percentage of poverty of 10%, namely 12.1%, while Banten and DKI Jakarta had 4.6% and respectively 3.55% of the population fall into the poor category.
For zakat, the study analyzes the number of mustahik and muzaki registered by OPZ in each city/district in the three provinces. The province with coverage the largest mustahik is DKI Jakarta, which is recorded as having helped 11.7% of the total mustahik in the province. While the other two provinces still have coverage below 5% with DI Yogyakarta (2.2%) and Banten (1.67%). That is, only less than 5% of the estimated mustahik in the two provinces who have felt the impact of zakat. The full publication of this study is expected to publish at the end of December 2020.
