Puskas BAZNAS expects its public expose 2020 to be conducted at the end of December 2020. Several issues will be discussed virtually, including the problem of low zakat collection.
Such problem in official zakat institutions in Indonesia is addressed by Bank Indonesia in 2018, led by Dr Ascarya, the results of the study indicate that one of the reasons for the low zakat collection in Indonesia is that there are still many Indonesians who pay their zakat outside official institutions.
It is also further strengthened by a statement from one of the leaders in the National Committee for Sharia Economics and Finance (KNEKS), Dr Ahmad Juwaini. In the 2020 National Zakat Coordination Meeting which was attended by all Zakat Management Organizations in Indonesia, Dr Ahmad Juwaini conveyed his observations, if there are still many parts of Indonesia who pay their zakat, it is not through zakat management organizations or zakat institutions.
So, one of the resolutions produced at the 2020 National Zakat Coordination Meeting is that BAZNAS will conduct a scientific study to measure the amount of zakat funds paid by the community to institutions outside the zakat management organization.
In realizing this research, BAZNAS took several stakeholders, such as from the Ministry of Religion, Bank Indonesia, the National Committee for Sharia Economics and Finance, and also from the University, namely the Bogor Agricultural Institute to measure the amount of zakat funds which is paid outside the established official institutions. The results of the study will be announced in the upcoming 2020 public expose.
